Front Door Sign
Designed by Nicola Manning
Make something similar saying 'No Junk Mail" or "Welcome" or whatever message you'd like on your front door ;-)
Materials:
Instructions:
- On transparency sheet squeeze some red acrylic paint. Dip stipple brush in water, then pick up some red paint and brush and dap red paint randomly over canvas. Do not cover the entire page.
- With butterscotch Paint Dabber fill in the remaining white spaces of the canvas. With a clean stipple brush pick up some water and dab/brush over butterscotch paint to mix colours together. Let canvas dry.
- Cut a face from the clip art page, cut a body shape from the scarlet solid page and cut an arm from the magazine image.
- Glue your person together and set aside. Cut a rectangle from the sepia solid page and set aside.
- With red crayon draw a rectangle border around your canvas. (we will paint over the crayon later)
- Cut four strips (about 4" long) from the scarlet solid and glue randomly, one along each side of your "frame". Cut four strips from the sepia solid (this time smaller, about 2-3" long) and glue randomly, one along each side of your "frame".
- Cut small pieces/images from the scarlet clip art page and place randomly on the frame.
- With a paintbrush pick up some red paint and paint over your red crayon rectangle, making sure to catch the sides of all your papers that touch this line.
- With a clean paintbrush pick up some butterscotch paint and paint around the edges of all the pieces of paper within your frame. With the same brush (do not clean) pick up some red paint and make random strokes and dabs within the frame. Again do not clean your brush and now pick up some more butterscotch paint and make more random strokes within the frame. Set this brush aside, we will use it again later.
- Glue your person and door in the centre of your piece. With a clean brush and some butterscotch, paint around the edges of your person. Use the dabber to make a circle for the door knob. With the pencil draw around edges of door.
- With pencil lightly sketch in your choice of text.
- With clean brush and black, paint over the penciled text. When you reach the end of the text go back again and go over once more to make the letters really stand out.
- Now pick up the dirty brush that was set aside in step 6. It should still be somewhat damp. Gently dip the brush into some of the paint of one of your letters to pick up a tiny bit of black paint. Take this brush and start making random strokes and dabs over the entire piece (avoiding the face) until the brush is completely dry and no more paint is released.
- Take the eraser and rub the paint marks made in the previous step. With black paint, lightly edge around the entire canvas to finish the edges.
